Don’t try this at home, but we are going to show you how to prune dead branches from a holly, from our attached time-lapse video clip and photos.  Pruning in trees is obviously more difficult than from the ground, and you need to be a trained, qualified tree surgeon to safely work at height using a rope and harness.

The tricky part is finding an anchor point to secure yourself in the canopy, where all of the available branches are dead and very brittle. Danny is working slowly and carefully to ensure that he is always adequately supported throughout the operation. The smaller branches were left on site in habitat piles in an untamed area of the garden, whilst the larger branches were sawn up to be used as firewood.
