Waste Management

Countryside and Garden Conservation for Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester, Bridport and throughout Dorset

Waste Management is such an integral part of the business, we felt compelled to dedicate this page to it! Experience shows that a large amount of our time on site is spent dealing with the waste products of tree care work, or our landscaping activities. The act of felling a medium sized tree can take as little as five minutes in ideal circumstances, but we could spend the rest of the day clearing it up and removing it from site, even with our professional tools and equipment.

In addition to our tree and hedge trimming services, we offer a garden clearance service where we can tidy and remove unwanted items, green waste or overgrown vegetation. All waste is recycled by us or taken to one of the local recycling centres.

General Repairs: During the recent storms we were commissioned to repair and replace large amounts of domestic fencing.

We are registered as an upper-tier Environment Agency Licensed Waste Carrier. This means that we have a statutory duty to dispose of tree and garden waste correctly

We are committed to Sustainable Waste Management – suitable logs are split into firewood, kept as deadwood habitat or recycled via the local authority.

Conservation and Ecology

We can offer a diverse range of Conservation and Ecology services throughout Dorset, ranging from tree and hedge planting, forestry, scrub management, invasive species management, weed control, pesticide application and fencing.

There are some countryside management tasks where burning waste on site is an acceptable option, or woody arisings can be used for habitat piles, but at all other times waste is removed and disposed of in accordance with relevant legislation and industry best practice guidelines.

If your garden has a naturalistic area, habitat piles can be an ideal way of managing some of your woody waste. Rather than simply chipping everything and taking it away, we can retain some branches or logs and stack them safely. The pile slowly decomposes and acts as both home and a food source for many beneficial invertebrates, which in turn provide a food source for birds, reptiles and other wildlife.
Professional Grounds Maintenance with high quality lawn, hedge, tree and shrub care for clients in the Weymouth area.  Let us take the hassle out of maintaining your outdoor space.

Seasonal services include de-thatching lawns, and removing weeds and moss, or removing fallen leaves that might cause a slip hazard when wet. All waste is managed sustainably and recycled or composted for future use.

The majority of our customers prefer us to remove all waste from site, which is entirely understandable. We ensure that all green waste is recycled and reused. However, there are many opportunities to manage waste with conservation and ecology objectives in mind.

Stump grinding and removal are highly specialised tasks, particularly in the vicinity of underground services, and should not be attempted without the right training or equipment. Our tree care team have the right tools, the training and the experience to dispose of your stumps cleanly and efficiently.

If you have a dead or damaged tree in your garden – that is not a danger to people or property – it can be retained as standing deadwood to decay over a long period, with appropriate pruning.  Standing deadwood trunks can provide an invaluable habitat for many species of invertebrates, birds and even bats.
Wherever possible, we encourage many of our clients to embrace garden composting as a sustainable and cost-effective means of reducing their carbon footprint. You can reduce trips to the recycling centre, and make your own organic compost from your kitchen and garden waste. What’s more – it’s entirely free!

We can build you a bespoke, pressure-treated composting area to suit the size of your garden, and enable you to compost successfully. The secret to success is to have at least three separate heaps – one full and maturing, one in the process of being filled, and one empty one to be used for mixing.  If you can turn and mix the contents of your heap every few weeks you really help the millions of invertebrates and micro organisms to work their magic.

Logs can be safely stacked to create habitat piles for invertebrates, where they can slowly decompose and create their own eco-system. Wood chip and grass clippings can be used as mulch, or mixed in a compost heap to be used later as soil conditioners or compost. Smaller diameter tree and shrub branches can be used to create brash piles that can be used by hibernating hedgehogs.
