Rooted in Excellence: Dorset’s Arborists of Choice
Here at Coastal Tree Care, we are proud of the conservation and ecology work we have been involved with to date – particularly our role as one of the lead contractors for the Portland Living Landscapes project, managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust. During the two year period of our involvement with the project as a lead contractor, we have removed and burnt hundreds of tonnes of Cotoneaster and other scrub species.
We are currently working with Natural England on one of their SSSI National Nature Reserve sites, clearing bramble and gorse from unimproved chalk downland, and have planted many thousands of trees and native hedging for PS Renewables, a major Solar PV farm installer.

In the ever-expanding urban landscapes, trees play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, providing oxygen, and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the surroundings. However, the management of trees in urban areas requires careful attention and expertise, and this is where the role of a tree surgeon becomes indispensable. Tree surgeons, also known as arborists, are professionals trained in the art and science of tree care. Coastal Tree care continue to have an essential role of as local Dorset based tree surgeons in ensuring the health and vitality of the urban greenery.

Invasive Species Management
Countryside management
Coastal Tree Care was established in 2011, but we have quickly gained the respect of a number of organisations for our expanding portfolio of Countryside Management projects.
In addition to our long-standing work with the Dorset Wildlife Trust on Portland, we have experience of dealing with other invasive plants, whether native or alien. Our invasive species management service is available throughout Dorset and into Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.
Our work as professional arborists overlaps frequently with more broad-based countryside management projects, such as tree and hedge planting, tree felling, scrub management and hedge trimming. If you are a Riparian owner you may be interested in services such as bridge building, wooden deck and fishing platform installations, waterside planting and herbicide application (where appropriate).
Pesticides and Herbicides
You can be confident that our team are trained, competent and experienced in the application of pesticides and herbicides. All work is properly risk assessed, environmental assessments are carried out prior to spraying operations, and waste materials are correctly disposed-of in accordance with the Green Code.

Rhododendron management
If you have woodland that is being rapidly over-run with Rhododendron, or an expanding area of Himalayan balsam, please give us a call. Our team is trained and accredited in the safe use of pesticides, and knapsack sprayer application. Waste can be safely burnt on site where appropriate, or correctly disposed of in line with legislation and industry best practice. Whatever your Rhododendron management strategy – we can help.
Soil Management and Fertilisation:
Ensuring the health of trees goes beyond what meets the eye. Tree surgeons are knowledgeable about soil composition and fertility. They can recommend and implement soil management techniques, such as aeration and fertilisation, to provide trees with the nutrients they need for optimal growth. This holistic approach contributes to the long-term well-being of urban greenery.
Tree Planting and Selection:
Tree surgeons are instrumental in selecting appropriate tree species for urban environments. They consider factors such as soil type, climate, and available space to ensure that the chosen trees thrive in their surroundings. Additionally, tree surgeons play a role in planting new trees, contributing to the expansion and diversification of urban green spaces.
